Petition to the Prime Minister
  Whereas:

    Canadian Paul Watson was arrested on July 21. He has since been detained in Greenland until at least October 2;
    Japan has been after Paul Watson since 2012 through an Interpol red notice. This red notice was condemned by the European Parliament in 2017 as a way for certain States to crack down on activists and opponents, which constitutes a human rights violation;
    The charges against Paul Watson can be dismissed by video testimonies that the Danish justice system refuses to watch;
    Paul Watson was on his way to oppose, once again, illegal whaling activities being carried out by Japanese vessels in international waters, despite the international moratorium on the trade in whale meat in place since 1986. As well, the arrest warrant issued by Japan includes a reference to “obstructing business”, an illegal “business” for which Japan was convicted in 2014 by the International Court in The Hague; and
    The Japanese prison conditions that Paul Watson would be subjected to if extradited are seen as the world’s most violent and are condemned by organizations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the International Federation for Human Rights.

    We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Prime Ministerto 1. request the release of fellow citizen Paul Watson from the Danish authorities; and
    2. request the withdrawal of the Interpol notice issued against Paul Watson from the Japanese government.
