ASIRT investigations concluded on four files

On Feb. 1, 2021, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate an arrest by officers of the Maskwacis RCMP.

On May 27, 2021, ASIRT was directed to investigate the death of a male while he was being restrained by officers of the Edmonton Police Service.

On Nov. 24, 2022, ASIRT was directed to investigate a fatal officer-involved shooting by officers with the Whitehorse RCMP.

On Oct. 12, 2023, ASIRT was directed to investigate the in-custody death of a male involving officers of the Slave Lake RCMP.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
