Alberta’s government is committed to providing timely and accessible health care for all Albertans, recognizing the importance of ensuring rural communities have reliable access to essential services.
The new Mountview Health Complex will deliver critical health care services to Beaverlodge and surrounding areas, enhancing access to care and supporting the health needs of the community for generations to come.
Through Budget 2024, Alberta’s government is investing $25.2 million to replace the 68-year-old Beaverlodge Health Centre with a state-of-the-art facility. The new Mountview Health Complex will not only feature a 24-7 urgent care centre but also enhance access to a range of health services for residents.
“Beaverlodge and area residents should be able to receive the services they need close to home. This new complex will provide residents with round-the-clock access to care when and where they need it most.”
The Mountview Health Complex will include 32 inpatient beds, lab services, diagnostic imaging and emergency medical services. In addition to urgent care, the new facility will provide inpatient services for recovery, rehabilitation, restorative care and transitional care, helping bridge the gap between hospital care and home care.
Extensive consultations with the community, its leadership and stakeholders – including residents and local physicians – shaped the decision to include 24-7 urgent care services, ensuring the facility better meets the needs of Beaverlodge and surrounding areas.

Culturally responsive practices will be incorporated into the design and service delivery of Mountview Health Complex, reflecting the voices and traditional knowledge of Indigenous communities.
With functional planning complete, the project has entered the design phase. Alberta Health Services, in collaboration with the Mountview Health Complex Committee, will continue to consult with residents and health care professionals as the project progresses. To keep the community informed, an in-person town hall will be held on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Beaverlodge Community Centre.
The facility is expected to open in 2028 and will be built on the 20 acres donated to the town by Doris McFarlane, a longtime community member and former nurse.
